O.D. stands for overall diameter—the total height of the tire from the ground to the top of the tread when mounted and inflated. O.D. affects speedometer accuracy, ABS/traction control, gearing, ground clearance, and fender/suspension clearance. When changing sizes, keep O.D. close to stock for proper operation.
You can estimate O.D. from a metric size using this quick math: (section width × aspect ratio × 2 ÷ 25.4) + wheel diameter. Example: 225/45R17 ? (225×0.45×2÷25.4)+17 ? 25.0". Real-world O.D. varies by brand, load, and inflation, so verify with our tools: Plus/Minus Sizing Calculator, Tire Size Comparison Calculator, and Wheel & Tire Size Calculator.
Even small O.D. changes impact fender and suspension room and can alter turning/ride height. Confirm inner/outer clearances and stance by reviewing Wheel Offset Explained and Custom Wheel Backspacing. Want a preview? See our Wheel Visualizer.
Maintaining O.D. does not replace safety specs—always match or exceed OE load index and speed rating. Large O.D. changes can affect ABS and stability control. If your vehicle uses TPMS, review TPMS Service before swapping wheels/tires.
Our specialists balance O.D., width, and offset to protect handling and comfort. Prefer a turn-key setup? Choose a curated Wheel & Tire Package—mounted, balanced, and TPMS-ready. Need a specific stance or brake clearance? Submit a Custom Built Wheel Order.
