High-Performance Racing Tires | Performance Plus Tire

Track days, time attack, autocross, or wheel-to-wheel—your tires are the biggest performance multiplier on the car. At Performance Plus Tire, our Fitment Team helps you choose compounds and sizes that match your chassis, brakes, aero, and driving goals so you get predictable grip, repeatable laps, and confident feedback from out lap to checkered flag.

Choose the Right Racing Tire Category

  • 200–220 TW Extreme Performance: Street-legal track tires with fast warm-up and strong consistency for HPDE, autocross, canyon, and mixed use.
  • DOT R-Compound (typically 40–100 TW): Track-focused compounds that deliver higher peak grip and faster lap times; manage heat cycles for longevity.
  • Full Slick (Non-DOT): Maximum dry grip for sanctioned competition; requires dialing-in camber, pressures, and warm-up protocol; not for public roads.
  • Drag Radials & Slicks: Optimized for straight-line traction with flexible sidewalls and specialized compounds; check class rules and wheel requirements.

Fitment & Setup Factors We Verify

  • Size Strategy: Maintain overall diameter close to stock (~±3%) to protect gearing, ABS, and speedometer. We match wheel width to tire section width for a proper contact patch.
  • Load & Speed Ratings: Ratings must meet or exceed your vehicle spec; high-load needs for heavier cars and EV track builds.
  • Camber & Clearance: More negative camber supports shoulder wear on sticky compounds. We check strut, fender, and liner clearance at compression and full lock.
  • Heat Management: Compound choice, session length, and track surface determine pressure targets and wear patterns. We help you start with safe baseline pressures.
  • Directional/Asymmetric Patterns: Correct mounting matters for water evacuation and wear. We label sets for rotation and side-to-side swaps.

Break-In, Pressures & Care

  • Scrub-In: New competition tires benefit from a gentle heat cycle—bring them up to temp gradually, then let them cool 24 hours before pushing for peak laps.
  • Pressure Targets: Start near the tire maker’s guidance; typical hot ranges: 200TW ~34–36 psi hot, R-comp ~30–34 psi hot, slicks vary by construction. Tune to even temps/wear.
  • Rotation: Flip and rotate to manage shoulder wear; monitor inner/outer temps and adjust camber and pressures accordingly.
  • Storage: Cool, dark, and dry; avoid ozone sources (motors, welders). Bag sets between events to reduce aging.

Wheel & Tire Packages—Mount, Balance, Track

We build race-ready packages: mount and balance to your spec, label positions, include the correct hardware, and offer TPMS solutions for dual-purpose street cars. Your set arrives ready to bolt on with torque specs and care guidance.

Racing Tires FAQ

Do I need DOT-approved tires for track days?

Most HPDE and autocross groups allow street-legal (DOT) tires; some series/classes also permit DOT R-compounds. Full slicks typically require sanctioned competition and are not street legal—check your event rules.

200TW vs. R-comp: which is faster?

R-compounds usually offer higher peak grip and faster laps but demand more setup (camber/pressure) and heat management. 200TW tires warm up quickly, are more forgiving, and can be driven to and from the track.

How should I break in new racing tires?

Scrub in with a progressive session to bring tires to operating temp without sliding; allow a full cool-down. This can stabilize the tread surface and improve consistency.

What hot pressures should I run?

Follow the tire manufacturer’s guidance for your size and car weight. As a starting point, many 200TW tires target ~34–36 psi hot, and many R-compounds ~30–34 psi hot. Adjust to achieve even temps and wear.

Will wider tires always be faster?

Wider tires can increase dry grip but add weight and drag. They also require appropriate wheel width and fender clearance. We size to your suspension, aero, and track length for usable grip.

How many heat cycles will my tires last?

Depends on compound, car weight, alignment, and driving style. 200TW tires often maintain pace longer; some R-compounds peak early and then plateau. Track and temperature matter.

Are racing tires safe in the rain?

Street-legal extreme performance tires can work in light to moderate rain if tread depth is healthy. R-compounds and slicks have reduced hydroplaning resistance—use a wet-specific set for heavy rain.

Do I need an alignment for track tires?

Yes—more negative camber and corrected toe help shoulder wear and stability at speed. We’ll suggest a baseline and coordinate with your alignment shop.

Can you ship mounted track sets?

Yes. We mount/balance, label positions, include correct hardware, and ship ready to install with torque specs. TPMS options available for dual-purpose cars.

How do I know when to replace racing tires?

Watch for heat-cycled hardness, cord exposure, or significant shoulder tearing. For street-legal tires, replace by legal tread limits sooner if wet performance declines.
