Speaker: Glen from Performance Plus
This is Glen from Performance Plus and we’re going to be reviewing the U.S. Indy Mag U101 wheel, or the dish mag.
The U.S. Indy Mag was a name that’s been around for many, many years, along with Cragar, Ansen, American Racing back in the ‘60s. It got out of production a number of years ago and it’s recently been brought back. The whole intent of bringing the U.S. Indy Mag line back was to go after the retro cars, to make wheels like they made back i [...more]
Winter is hard on cars, especially northern winters’ sand, salt, grime, and extreme cold, and that’s just for the daily drivers. Classic cars, too, suffer in Winter, but for entirely different reasons, especially boredom. Well, no, not really – classic cars don’t get bored – but they do suffer the neglect of not running for months on end, which can cause damage, seen and unseen. After sitting for a season, perhaps more, any car, classic cars, especially, need special care to get them up and runn [...more]
If you’re restoring a classic car, already driving one, or just happen to have an “old” car, maybe you’ve heard of the unique license plates available for them. Can you get special license plates for your classic car? Unfortunately, the answer isn’t so simple, and it depends on what state you live in, how old your vehicle is, and how you plan on using it. Before you walk into Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) – Seriously, what’s up with you, MA? – here are a fe [...more]
If visiting Ireland, whether you’ve got business, friends, of family – we’re all imports, anyway – you’re probably wondering how you’re going to get around. For some people, getting around is by bus and taxi, or simply by foot in metropolitan areas. For many others, though, a car rental is the way to go, and you can get just about anywhere in less than a day, maybe longer if you spend time sightseeing. Renting a car in Ireland is just like renting a car in the States, but driving in Ireland is a [...more]
Car ownership is a costly affair, starting with car payments, auto insurance, regular maintenance, and repairs. On average, it costs about $9,000 per year to drive a car, but a recent AAA (American Automobile Association) study revealed about one-third of Americans aren’t prepared to pay for unexpected auto repairs. Additionally, many car owners simply don’t set aside enough money for service items, such as engine oil changes, brake repairs, and tire replacement. Despite the fact that tires inde [...more]

"No longer available" – for collectors of rare classic cars, the unavailability of spare parts can quickly lead to problems. In the worst case scenario, the car may even be forced out of action. Porsche Classic, the division of Porsche dedicated to classic vehicles, has come up with a solution to this problem.
Namely, producing extremely rare parts that are only needed in small quantities using 3D printers. All parts that are produced using the 3D printing process meet the requirements in [...more]
Some see TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) as yet another “idiot light” to get drivers to pay more attention to their cars, there’s a very good reason for that little TPMS warning light to come on. To put it bluntly, it’s because most drivers simply aren’t paying attention to tire pressure, which can lead to several problems, all of them expensive and some of them downright scary:
At worst, low tire pressure could lead to a blowout and a loss of control, so basically low tire pressure ca [...more]

Mid-size sedans are most-often described with words like “ho hum” or “boring,” with appropriately “dead” handling and “appliance-like” performance. Still, drivers find it hard to simply rubber-stamp the 2018 Honda Accord with those same epithets, all thanks to Honda engineers’ determination to put some enjoyment back into the ride. Add in some new technology and safety packages, and the 2018 Honda Accord makes for a more-than-acceptable stepping-stone, something interesting to do after stepping [...more]
Most would not mistake an economy car for a luxury car, but they might be mistaken if they see you driving the 2018 Acura ILX sporty compact premium sedan. This luxury car is a great way to get into something comfortable, quiet, powerful, and agile without spending more money on larger premium sedans in the segment. It’s exactly the reason luxury automakers keep making their vehicles smaller, and you’ll put this vehicle against the likes of the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mini Clubman, and Lexus [...more]
The tire pressure monitoring system, or TPMS, is designed to alert you when a tire’s pressure has become significantly low. Maintaining proper tire pressure is critical to safe driving and fuel economy. On select models, the multi-information display will indicate which tire is low, along with a check tire pressure message.
On all models, a low tire pressure indicator, in the shape in the tire cross-section will light on the instrument panel. In either case, you should stop and check the tires [...more]
Did you know that checking your oil level immediately after you switch the engine off won’t give you an accurate reading? This is how you do it, the right way.
The dipstick, which has an almost keyring-like handle is used to check the oil level. Pull it our and wipe it clean with a lint-free piece of cloth. You’ll notice that it has a level indicator on it. Reinsert the dipstick back into the engine. Pull it out again and check the level on the indicator.
If the car has been running, make [...more]

In 1958, Harold Coker started Coker Tire Company, in Chattanooga, TN, but there was a problem: It was nearly impossible to find the right tires for classic cars from the 30s and 40s. Already well-versed in automotive restoration, Coker envisioned producing his own vintage-style tires for classic and antique cars, and so Coker Tire Company was born. Still, antique tire production wasn’t particularly profitable at the time, the main business coming from tires put on daily drivers of the day. The s [...more]
