The Performance Plus Story: Four Decades of Excellence

From our humble beginnings 38 years ago in Inglewood, California, our family-owned and operated business has grown to become one of Southern California's largest independent tire, custom wheel, and custom suspension dealers. Over the last several years, we have also established ourselves as one of the world's leading marketers of collector car tires and custom wheels. Our journey, while challenging at times, reflects our unwavering commitment to quality and service.

Performance Plus Tire and Auto Superstore began as "The Big House of Chrome" in Inglewood, California. In 1978, we expanded our vision by purchasing one of Southern California's original custom shops, "Dave's Home of Chrome" in Compton. This acquisition marked the beginning of what would become a legacy in the automotive customization industry.

Through the years, our company flourished in wholesale distribution, becoming one of the area's premier custom wheel distributors. We strategically grew our retail presence, and in 1986, unified our brand identity by renaming all locations as Performance Plus Tire and Auto Centers. Following this transition, we made the strategic decision to exit the distribution business and focus exclusively on expanding our retail footprint. By 1992, Performance Plus had successfully grown to ten thriving stores with plans for continued expansion. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles riots severely impacted our company's financial health, with three stores completely destroyed by fire and two others suffering significant damage to both facilities and inventory.

The years that followed were true "character builders" for our family and loyal employees as Performance Plus worked tirelessly to overcome these challenges. Though we ultimately closed or sold the remaining stores, we maintained our flagship Long Beach location. The continued success of our Long Beach store stands as a testament to years of dedication, expert craftsmanship, and the unwavering loyalty of our exceptional staff. We also remain grateful to the many suppliers who stood by us during our most challenging times.

Today, we proudly stand as one of Southern California's premier automotive establishments. Our impressive $1.2 million inventory features an extensive selection of passenger, light truck, ultra-high performance, vintage, drag, and specialty tires from all the renowned manufacturers. We maintain a diverse stock of over five thousand custom wheels, while our Custom Suspension inventory from RCD and Eibach is unmatched on the West Coast. Our state-of-the-art equipment and expert technicians represent the industry's finest, and our sales team brings over one hundred years of combined experience to serve you better.
